A Simple Easter Card to Make at Home

A popular trend is to exchange greeting cards at Easter and companies like Hallmarks have given a boost to this tradition with their wonderful collection of cards, both in the stores and online. People spend a lot of money on buying gifts, cards, and fun Easter bunny costumes for their kids or even cool trendy or a traditional maybe biblical type Easter costume for themselves. After Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, Easter is considered to be the fourth largest celebration and greeting card selling time. There is a wide variety of Easter egg and animated e-cards available and you just visit the galleries online from the comfort of your own home and easily sent one on to your loved ones.

However, homemade cards have their own importance and they give you the chance to get in touch with your creative side and add your own personalized touch. Making your own cards gives you the chance to change and customize your cards accordingly. Here is a card you can make at home with little expense; you will just need some card, a paintbrush, or old toothbrush, a few colors of acrylic paint, pencil, scissors, craft knife, ribbon.

The card will end up as an egg shape so take a card large enough for you to draw two egg shapes side by side to form the front and back. Now the manner of decoration is by splattering paint over the card, it is easy, quick and very effective, but of course this is an exercise in creativity so you should do what feels right to you.

1. Paint one side of the card a pale color and when dry load a paint brush with a darker hue of the same color and splatter it over the card with a flicking movement of the brush or tapping the side of it on your fingers.
2. Once this is dry splatter on specks of very pale color or white paint with your paint brush and leave to dry. Or you can use a toothbrush to create this splattered effect by loading it with paint and running your fingernail over the bristles splattering the paint on the card.
3. Next on this painted card, draw two egg shapes (an oval template will be helpful here) side by side, but position these two shapes so that they are joining partially on one side and then cut them out. Score the joined part lightly with a knife so that it will fold without creasing.
4. Fold the card so that it sits (painted side outwards) on its side and tie a ribbon around the joined part to finish.

Kids can make cards themselves and can also use crayon or pastels. They can draws bunnies, Easter eggs and baskets or if they are old enough to have the skills create their cards on the computer using the paint option. This can be a wonderful activity and make their Easter creative and very enjoyable.
